Despite information circulating in certain media concerning a possible postponement of the general elections in the DRC, the Ceni maintains its position affirming that it will respect the constitutional deadline. It is striving to organize these elections on December 20, although it faces a tight schedule and logistical challenges that have led the government to request additional support from MONUSCO and the Angolan air force.

Angola has not yet responded to the DRC’s request for support for its air fleet. Likewise, the UN Security Council has yet to act on the government’s official request for additional logistical support. In addition, the next confirmed meeting of the Security Council is scheduled for December 20, election day, where the new resolution extending the mandate of MONUSCO will be discussed.
Despite these developments, the CENI continues to move forward without foreseeing a shift in the electoral calendar. She claims to have found alternative solutions. Denis Kadima reiterated Thursday before the members of the Council of State the confirmation of the holding of elections on December 20.
He also called on the candidates to continue a peaceful campaign. In an official press release, the CENI invited voters to participate massively in these elections. She said polling stations will be open and operational from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time.
In addition, regularly registered voters as well as those whose cards have become illegible or lost are invited to go to the polling station, where Céni staff will take care of them on a case-by-case basis.
