“Look, this is a canal and from there it is 20 meters to the Vecht,” says initiator and treasurer Cor Scheffers. “We are now going to remove the weeds and shrubs so that after a short paddling you are on the river. That is fantastic. The Vecht is three thousand years old. Behind the lock on the Merwede Canal are the well-known rowing clubs Triton, Orca and Viking, but there is nothing on this beautiful river.” Well, almost nothing then: on the Vecht between Breukelen and Maarssen there is still rowing club Het Galjoen, which originated from Nyenrode Business University.
