Despite the climate crisis TotalEnergies will increase its hydrocarbon production

Around 2 to 3% per year over the next five years.

TotalEnergies will develop its leading liquefied natural gas projects in Qatar, the United States, Mozambique and Papua New Guinea. The French major will also put oil projects into production in Uganda and Iraq, for example.

This forecast of increased hydrocarbon production does not surprise Jean-Pierre Favennec, oil specialist.

Every year there is an increase in the demand for oil. If we take the current year, we will have an increase of around 2% in oil demand, we will go from 100 to 102 million barrels per day. »

This reality collides with another: that of the imperative to reduce dependence on fossils to limit global warming. Louis-Maxence Delaporte, energy analyst at Reclaim Finance, regrets this announcement: “ When we see TotalEnergies’ strategy, it is absolutely not aligned with a 1.5°C scenario. TotalEnergies has a climate-killing strategy. And financial players who have made carbon neutrality commitments must stop supporting TotalEnergies as long as they do not make a real transition by stopping the development of oil and gas projects. »

By 2030, oil and gas will represent 80% of the energy mix produced by TotalEnergies compared to around 20% for renewables and so-called low-carbon activities.
