The Israeli army recently asked the Palestinians, who live in the north of the Gaza Strip and number approximately 1.1 million people, to move to the south of the region.
Even though several days have passed since Israel asked Palestinians to leave the northern Gaza Strip, the region is witnessing a reverse migration movement of those who went to the south and central parts towards their displaced homes.
Palestinians, who turned to the southern and central parts of the Gaza Strip to escape Israeli air strikes, began to return to the cities in the north of the region since yesterday evening.
Despite the severe air attack by Israeli forces, a voluntary return movement is observed in the northern regions. It is stated that this started as a result of the unstable security conditions that developed following the continuous attacks on the southern and central parts of the Gaza Strip, which led to the death of many people.
Although no official statement has been made, it is estimated that approximately 150 people died and more than 300 were injured in Israel’s attacks on the southern regions.
Among the reasons for returning to the northern regions is that Palestinians cannot find the necessities of life in the southern regions.
“WE DECIDED TO RETURN TO OUR HOME”
Nizar Abdulkerim (40), one of those who returned home despite the attacks, told AA correspondent that they went to Khan Yunus 3 days ago with his family of 5.
However, Abdulkerim noted that Israel also attacked those who took shelter here and that they returned to Gaza city due to the aerial bombardment that caused the death of some people. “We could not live here with my family, so we decided to return home.” said.
Abdulkerim said that the areas where the displaced people live are already overcrowded and there are no services since it is not a systematic city.
Palestinian: “I would rather die at home than live there without any vital needs. Especially as the weather starts to get colder in the Gaza Strip, children cannot sleep there due to the shortage of blankets and beds.” he said.
Abdulkerim stated that for this reason, he preferred to return home with all his family members, and his father and siblings also returned with their families.
ASYLUM PROBLEM
Samar Abdulgaffur (38), a Palestinian mother of three children, said that she returned from Deir al-Belah in the central part of the Gaza Strip, one of the areas that Israel stated was “safe” when calling for “relocation”.
Noting that Deir Belah was subjected to intense air attacks in the past few days and that they survived these attacks by Israel, Abdulgaffur said, “My children are in terror and panic because of the fear they experienced as well as the events they witnessed. Some of them have nightmares at night.” said.
Abdulgaffur stated that he returned home and that his own home was better than living under inhumane conditions in the places he was displaced from. The Palestinian woman also stated that they were deprived of the feeling of security that they were displaced to find.
Stating that nearly 50 people live in a house of approximately 60 square meters in the area where they were displaced, Abdulgaffur stated that this means that they have no privacy and living space, in addition to being deprived of water, electricity, internet or any other basic needs of life.
Abdulgaffur also pointed out that food stocks are very limited in the southern regions, as in the entire Gaza Strip.
Pointing out that the population of the region was overcrowded before the movement towards the south, Abdulgaffur added that after the forced migration, the number of residents exceeded the capacity of the region.
ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT
Hamas’s armed wing, Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, launched a comprehensive attack on Israel on the morning of October 7, called the “Aqsa Flood”.
While thousands of rockets were fired from Gaza towards Israel, Palestinian armed groups raided and seized the Beit Hanun-Erez Border Gate on the Gaza-Israel border.
Armed groups then entered the settlements within Israel from here, and the Israeli army launched an attack on the Gaza Strip with dozens of warplanes.
It was reported that 1,300 Israelis, including 291 soldiers, died and 3,968 Israelis were injured in the attacks carried out from Gaza.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that 2,750 people died and 9,700 people were injured in Gaza in Israel’s attacks.
It was stated that 58 Palestinians died and approximately 1250 people were injured in the attacks of Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank.
11 journalists also lost their lives in Israeli attacks.
In the clashes that have broken out between Hezbollah and the Israeli army on the Israeli border in the south of Lebanon since October 8, 3 civilians, 4 Hezbollah militiamen and 2 members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement have died so far. 3 Israeli soldiers died in the attacks carried out by Lebanon.
