Despite measures taken against telephone scams, crimes continue to increase. In 2022, reports to the police increased by 86 percent compared to the year before, according to new figures that TV4 Nyheterna has seen.
This summer, the banks’ responsibilities were tightened following a Supreme Court ruling so that bank customers who have been defrauded of their bank details can receive compensation from their bank. But the banks’ new practice usually does not apply if the customer himself has been tricked into signing the transaction.
Now there are demands for a new HD examination such that more defrauded bank customers are covered by compensation.
– Even in cases where you yourself have been tricked into transferring money to fraudsters, even there you must reconsider and see if the client should not be compensated, says Jan Bertoft, Secretary General of Sweden’s Consumers.
