A dramatic fall for Ebba Andersson and a tired Frida Karlsson cost Sweden the gold in today’s World Cup relay in cross-country skiing.
Ebba Andersson drove Sweden’s second leg. Together with Norway, Finland and Germany, the quartet got an edge over the rest of the WC teams. But – not long before switching, Ebba Andersson overturned in a curve and broke a pole.
Despite the fall, Sweden was only 7 seconds behind leading Germany when Ebba switched to Frida Karlsson. After that, it didn’t take long before Frida had taken the lead.
Fought for the bronze
Norwegian Ingvild Flugstad Östberg then pulled away with power, leaving a tired Frida Karlsson behind. Germany also passed Sweden at the third changeover.
Maja Dahlqvist went out on the fourth and final stretch a full 15 seconds behind leading Norway, who looked to have succeeded really well with the herding. She had to fight hard for the bronze against Finland’s Parmakoski, but in the end managed to sprint home the medal.
