Despite Concord, Sony wants to continue with its bold plan for PS5 – The next service game is from a well-known developer

Their new service game Concord failed after just a few days on Steam and PS5. But Sony still has high hopes for their initiative to bring new live service games to the PS5. Their next game is “Fairgame$” and comes from Jade Raymond, a well-known producer of Assassin’s Creed.

What kind of initiative is this? In April 2023, Sony announced that it would develop 12 new service games by 2026 that would function similarly to Destiny and GTA Online. We already knew 7 of the games at that time. The number was later revised downwards slightly.

In order to achieve its goal of establishing successful long-running titles, Sony has made a lot of purchases in recent years. Among others, it has bought Destiny developer Bungie, but also Firewalk, who have now failed so badly with Concord.

But despite the failure of Concord, Sony still believes in the idea. They are pinning their hopes on Havens Studio and their new game: Fairgame$.

This is Fairgame$. It was shown in May 2023:

New game is compared to PayDay

This is what a journalist says about the next game: After the hero shooter Concord failed miserably despite being in development for 8 years, Sony is still confident that the next game will not be the same.

In summer 2023, Fairgames (Fairgame$) from Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios was introduced.

As a journalist says in a podcast, Sony is confident about the game (via gi). She has heard from internal sources that Sony has a good feeling about the project.

Sony obviously thinks highly of Fairgame$.

What kind of game is this? Fairgame$ will be more of an extraction shooter than a hero shooter, says the journalist.

In its first presentation, the game was often compared to Payday – but Payday 3 is not doing as well as previously thought. Sony therefore seems optimistic that it can fill a gap here.

The game also has the opportunity to learn from Concord’s mistakes.

Promising developer, but hardly heard from her in 10 years

Who is the woman behind the game? Jade Raymond (49) is a video game producer and is best known for her work at EA and Ubisoft on series such as The Sims, Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs (2002 to 2014). She has received hardly any credits for video games in the last 10 years, but has repeatedly changed companies and positions:

She worked at Motive Studios and was supposed to work on a Star Wars game by Amy Henning. But she left her post for a “top secret project” at Google, apparently to build Stadia there. But as we know, that didn’t work out.

Since 2021, she has been doing her own thing with Haven Studios. Sony bought the studio in July 2022.

The studio plans to build the game together with the community, and they want to slowly make it more popular through playtests, rather than hoping that all the players will show up on day 1. With Concord, the hope principle didn’t work at all: Why did Concord fail so badly on Steam and PS5 and did Sony burn $250 million on a woke disaster?
