Despite bickering Kim Cattrall returns to Sex and the City

Kim Cattrall has made no secret of her disinterest in the Sex and the City sequel And Just Like That… in the past. The actress of fan-favorite Samantha Jones was the only one of the original quartet not to return, partly because she fell out with Carrie star Sarah Jessica Parker years ago.

A reunion with Samantha was therefore considered almost impossible – until now. For And Just Like That Season 2, Kim Cattrall will make a surprise return, albeit with some (clever) limitations.

Here’s how Kim Cattrall returns in And Just Like That Season 2

Industry magazine Variety exclusively gives the details of Kim Cattrall’s return in the Sex and the City sequel:

  • Kim Cattrall returns as Samantha Jones in the season 2 finale
  • She will only appear in one scene
  • She already filmed the scene
  • There was no contact with the acting trio Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis
  • Even showrunner Michael Patrick King wasn’t there
  • Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field returned to And Just Like That especially for this performance
  • Samantha will be on the phone with Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw in the scene

A possible reunion between Carrie and Samantha was teased in the finale of And Just Like That Season 1, but it doesn’t get that far, at least in Season 2.

“We won”: Sex and the City fans are over the moon

In any case, Kim Cattrall seems to have found the ideal compromise. On the one hand she gets a fee for an appearance in the HBO series, on the other hand she doesn’t have to work with Sarah Jessica Parker for it. The two actresses have been at odds since 2017, when plans for a third Sex and the City movie fizzled out. A year later, Cattrall labeled Parker out of hypocrite in an Instagram post, writing: “You’re not my girlfriend.”

In any case, many Sex and the City fans are over the moon, as reactions on social media show. It also celebrates the way Cattrall will come back:

She’s so funny, I hope they pay her a billion dollars.
