Descendants of KNIL soldiers write a book about the guerrilla on Timor in 1942: ‘They did not want to bend’

Descendants of KNIL soldiers write a book about the querrila

This first extensive Dutch publication about the KNIL guerrilla warfare on Timor in 1942 was compiled by the young historian Robbert van Leeuwen and the Verzet Timor 1942 project team, including a number of descendants of these KNIL guerrilla fighters. For this book, intensive research has been done in many historical sources from both the Netherlands and Australia, as well as private archives, including letters, diaries, newspaper articles and personal stories. The more than 470 pages counting book also contains many unique photos and illustrations and a list of names of all KNIL fighters involved. In addition to the Dutch (Totoks), Indos, Moluccan and indigenous soldiers also fought.
