With DeSantis’ withdrawal, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is the last real candidate capable of challenging Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

From top contender to decline in popularity

DeSantis was widely considered a front-runner in the Republican presidential race and a natural successor to Trump because of his combative style and conservative values.

Even at the beginning of last year, DeSantis was leading Trump in numerous one-on-one opinion polls, but his popularity has been falling for months.

The fall in DeSantis’ popularity has been estimated to be a failed campaign strategy and Trump’s strong position in the party’s supporters.

DeSantis failed to convince Republican voters why he was a better candidate than Trump. At the same time, the votes of the Republicans who want to get rid of Trump have been evenly distributed among the other candidates. Moderate Republicans in particular have turned to Haley’s supporters.
