(Telestock) – A Trenord train with about 200 passengers on board, coming from Domodossola, remained involved in an accident with a freight car this morning, Friday 13th September, around 6.30, in Milan. He was injured in the accident the driver was not seriously injured of the passenger train, 24 years old, while no other travellers suffered any consequences, while the train derailed causing network disruptions and delays.

Commenting on the incident, the President of the Lombardy Region Attilio Fontana he explained that “the accident was caused by a freight train – therefore not managed by Trenord – who lost a container and went to occupy the tracks on which another passenger train was arriving. If it had arrived at the same time I think the situation would have unfortunately been tragic.”

Fontana attributed the incident to condition of the Lombard railways. “This is yet another demonstration of the necessity for our region of have a better railway networkyounger, more efficient,” the President said, adding “this network is very stressedwas built and constructed for an absolutely smaller number of trains, to transport an absolutely smaller number of people.”

The President then reiterated the need for structural intervention. “The network has held up to now, but if substantial interventions and substantial restructuring are not started, I say that the fact that circulation will continue to have problems is a certainty,” he concluded.
