Previously, Sweden and Afghanistan had a readmission agreement, which facilitated the execution of deportations to the country. But it ceased to apply after the Taliban took power, which led to the border police not being able to enforce any deportation to Afghanistan in the past year.

Today, the border police has around 2,300 open cases with people who have deportation orders to Afghanistan.
