Dengue virus: what is it?

Dengue virus what is it

the virus of the dengue fever (or DENV) is responsible for the disease of the same name.

Characteristics of dengue virus

the virus dengue fever is a flavivirusof the family of Flaviviridae (close to yellow fever virus and west nile virus). Its four serotypes (DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4) are very similar: the viral particle is spherical, enveloped by a membrane where proteins viral, with a diameter of 65 to 70 nanometers. The genome is made up of a RNA linear of 10,000 bases, coding for a polyprotein. After his cleavage by viral or cellular proteases, more than ten proteins are released and can act at the level of the viral cycle.

Dengue virus and disease in humans

The dengue virus is transmitted to humans by the bite of a mosquito infected belonging to the genus Aedesduring the injection of his saliva with anticoagulant action.

The virus would have a tropism particular for three human organs: the immune systemthe liver and endothelial cells of blood vessels.
