Jean-Pierre Foucault is making his big comeback on television soon. But he will surprisingly be ousted from hosting.
For almost 20 years, Jean-Pierre Foucault was the iconic ringmaster of Who wants to be a millionaire. With his wit, his empathy and his famous “Is this your last word?”, he made this game a monument of French television. But in 2019, TF1 took away the reins of the show in favor of Camille Combal. A choice that surprised, even shocked, many viewers. The show would not last more than one season.
But in this 2024 back-to-school season, Who wants to be a millionaire is taking a new turn. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the cult game show, TF1 has decided to relaunch a series of shows. The channel has recorded several special events that will be broadcast in prime time starting this September. An XXL shoot at the Dôme de Paris, in front of 3,000 people, was organized.
And Jean-Pierre Foucault will also be making his big comeback in Who wants to be a millionaire. A way in particular to silence the rumors that he was on bad terms with TF1. “I have no problems with TF1, with whom I maintain extremely courteous relations,” he assured last April, putting an end to rumors of a falling out. His return also proves that the host has remained on good terms with the channel and that he is ready to play the game to celebrate the 25th anniversary of “his” show.
The fact remains that Jean-Pierre Foucault is not really going to find his place again and should be less smart on September 20, the date of the broadcast of the first issue. He will not be in the comfortable seat of the host, but rather in the more stressful one of candidate for the duration of this special evening. Information confirmed by Arthur, the one who will take the reins of Who wants to be a millionaire. Not enough to cause animosity between the two stars either. On his Instagram account, Arthur, who had long dreamed of presenting this program, recently wrote: “There was the one who sat in the seat for 19 years. The one, the only, the GOAT, Jean-Pierre Foucault.”
The 76-year-old host will therefore come to tackle general knowledge questions and try to win as much money as possible for an association. Jean-Pierre Foucault will not be the only distinguished guest at these anniversary bonuses. Many personalities have answered Arthur’s call: Michèle Bernier, Dany Boon, Kev Adams, Gérard Darmon, Laurent Ruquier, Jeff Panacloc, Florence Foresti, Claudia Tagbo and François-Xavier Demaison, to name but a few, will come to tackle multiple-choice questions. Enough to offer a great show to viewers.
