While the Senegalese authorities still show an official death toll of 16 during the demonstrations which followed the conviction of Ousmane Sonko last week, the human rights organization Amnesty International has said since Thursday that 23 people have been killed. The Pastef, Ousmane Sonko’s party, evokes 30 deaths. It is in this context that the first appearances of people arrested during the demonstrations began on Friday morning June 9 at the Dakar courthouse. This Friday, it was mainly minors who went before the judge.
