Young French men and women are expected to “repopulate” daycare centers and daycare centers. The government announced, Tuesday, January 16, the creation of a “major plan” to fight against the scourge of infertility, comprising in particular… an assessment for women and men, at the age of 25 years.

A gynecological examination and a spermogram

While Emmanuel Macron announced two measures last Tuesday aimed at boosting the birth rate in France, the newspaper La Tribune Sunday reveals that the executive would like to generalize a gynecological examination for women and a spermogram for men.

This would be reimbursed 100% by Social Security, at age 25, the age when women are most fertile.

We want to create a signal effect to tell young people ‘don’t ask yourself this question at 35’“, details Emmanuel Macron’s entourage to the newspaper.

Questioned on the subject in the program “Political Questions”, the Minister Delegate in charge of Equality between Women and Men, Aurore Bergé, assured that this track, “worn by the Élysée“, was “Good“.

Infertility is first and foremost an absolute tragedy for women and men who want to have children and who are unable to do so.“, launched Aurore Bergé, according to whom it is “not a gimmicky subject“. According to her, infertility remains a problem that “we often talk too late” and that “goes hand in hand with the question of our public health”.

In France, one in four couples wanting children are unable to achieve pregnancy after 12 months of trying, reveals Inserm.

Women aged 34 or over would also have more recourse to infertility treatments, an increase of 24%.

However, this fertility assessment is not “ideal”, believes our expert, Odile Bagot.

This assessment does not seem very relevant, because infertility is multi-factorial. It’s a question of men, women and the relationships between the two. We do not have a standard fertility test for women, but several. It is therefore not enough to do a simple blood test to have a clear answer on its fecundability.“, says the gynecologist.

NO to diets, YES to WW!

    Raise awareness about infertility

If the generalization of the previously cited examination is not a “good thing“according to Odile Bagot, she nevertheless tells us that infertility should be the subject of”prevention campaigns“.

Carrying out preventive tests on alcohol or tobacco is an excellent thing. We must also remind people that we should not wake up at 40 to have children,” she explains.

Succeeding in having one at this age remains exceptional.

In women, spontaneous fertility decreases from the age of 30, significantly after the age of 37, due to a decrease in the number and quality of oocytes with age.“, recalls the Améli website.

The risk of not being a mother increases with age. It is thus:

    • 4% at 20 years old,
    • 14% at 35 years old,
    • 35% at 40 years old,
    • 80% after 45 years.
