The plans are to make it virtually impossible for other candidates to be elected presidential candidate at the convention in August through a virtual meeting. Already at the end of May, the party announced that there were such plans, due to a law in Ohio.
But now the move is rather described as an attempt to crush the rebellion within the Democrats once and for all. Should the virtual meeting be carried out, Biden only needs to duck the resignation demands for two more weeks, according to American Axios.

The day after Trump was shot said sources to NBC that there has been a pause in the attempts to oust Biden.
– Momentum has been lost, said a source at the time.
But only two days passed before the debate was awakened from its slumber. According to Axios, it is precisely the plans for an early nomination of Biden that are upsetting.
In addition, Axios has obtained a letter that is circulating between Democrats in Congress, the content of which is critical of the idea of rushing the election of Biden.
“We ask you to cancel the plans (…) and refrain from extraordinary procedures that could be perceived as restricting a legitimate debate,” the letter says.
The trips back and forth indicate division within the party, says Stenberg.
– The Democrats are divided on how to defeat Trump, not that it should be done. I have a hard time seeing how to bridge that divide, because Biden isn’t getting any younger.
– But I think that the chance that he will stay has increased after the attack. The debate has calmed down.
Increasingly weaker Biden support
The internal criticism of Biden goes hand in hand with failing opinion numbers for the sitting president. According to a recent measurement from YouGov leads Trump in all seven “swing states” – i.e. the states that are usually considered extra important to win.
That survey was also carried out before the assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Several experts believe that the attack will benefit the former president, at least in public opinion for some time afterwards.
