Great victory against Azerbaijan and group victory in the Nations League.
The road there consisted largely of revenge, according to Dejan Kulusevski.
– I have heard a lot about how Sweden has never been in a worse place, but I think it has never been better, says the star.
Missed out on the championship and relegated from the top division to the next worst in the Nations League. This led to harsh criticism of Sweden.
Kulusevski’s words
Condemnation that then became a question mark, then Jon Dahl Tomasson took over as national team captain and came in with a different game idea compared to his predecessor.
– Everything has changed. It’s a completely new national team, a new group and I like that Jon is doing his thing, says Dejan Kulusevski.

The Tottenham star, who scored two goals in the big victory against Azerbaijan (6-0), then says that the criticism surrounding the national team was the motivation that, among other things, led to advancement in the Nations League.
– I have heard that Swedish football is the worst it has ever been, I think quite the opposite. I have heard a lot that Sweden has never been in a worse place, but I don’t think it has ever been better than now, says the 24-year-old and elaborates.
– The players we have. (Viktor) Gyökeres, Alex (Isak), young players like Yasin (Ayari), who play at a high level. And all young people have age on their side.
Sweden’s future
The combination of Tomasson’s way of being and the players’ drive has made the national team reverse the negative trend, says Kulusevski.
– The coach is incredibly important in football, as he is the one who chooses the path. Jon has been fantastic in that, being clear and saying what is expected of us players.
– We players do the rest. There are many people who are hungry in this national team and who want it to go well. I’m sure this is just the beginning.

On December 13, the qualifiers for the WC 2026 will be drawn in the USA, Canada and Mexico. Sweden will then be pitted against better opposition – and Kulusevski is looking forward to that.
– You meet each other on the same terms. Certainly they have more quality and we play man and man, so it becomes more important for the individual to be able to cope with his duel.
