The defense budget will increase by two billion next year and the total increase will be SEK 22 billion for 2024, according to Dagens Nyheter. Then also previously decided increases are included.
The new billions means that Sweden reaches NATO’s goal of spending two percent of GDP on defense, according to the newspaper.
The supplement concerns, among other things, compensation to the Swedish Armed Forces for the military equipment taken out of storage to be donated to Ukraine and to meet the rearmament of the defense that the Riksdag has previously decided on.
