What at first looked like an ordinary wildlife accident turned out to be something more.
A deer in Lammhult lay next to the road – headless and blown apart by rockets on New Year’s Day, something that P4 Kronoberg was the first to report on.
– It was completely blown to pieces, says John Carlsson, who found the deer.
On New Year’s Day, John Carlsson was greeted by a nasty sight. Along an access road in Lammhult, a dead deer had been found – shot in the anus with New Year’s rockets.
– It is injudicious and empathetic. What kind of values do you have when you do this?, he says.
“It was completely blown apart”
He received the call from an acquaintance who told him about a dead deer by a road in Lammhult, and John Carlsson went there to look over the injured animal.
– My acquaintance first thought it was a predator that had taken it. When I looked at it a little more, I didn’t see any signs of a battle.
Next to the animal were New Year’s rockets and he chose to take a closer look.
– I saw that there were rockets stuffed in the deer’s anus. It had burst its intestines and stomach. It was completely blown to pieces, he says.
No investigation
Besides that, the front leg was damaged and the head was missing. John Carlsson called the police and soon after, search hunters also came to look at the animal.
– It looked strange on the front leg, so it was probably hit in the first stage.
John Carlsson made a report, but the police have chosen not to investigate the incident further.
– We do not assess it as a crime but as a wildlife accident, says Robert Loeffel, press spokesperson in the Kalmar and Kronoberg police area to TV4 Nyheterna.
