According to the news of Hindustan Times, two more people were injured in the accident involving two passengers and a freight train, near Bahanaga Bazar Railway Station in the state’s Balasore district.
Thus, the death toll in the accident, in which more than 900 people were injured, rose to 290.
In the investigation initiated by the railway authorities, it was stated that “signal error” may have caused the accident, according to the first determinations.
Although the transit signal was given for the Coromandel Express and then the signal was cut off, the train entering the main line collided with the freight train.
While a comprehensive report on the accident is expected to be prepared in a short time, the reason for the signal to be given and canceled is not yet known.
According to the Indian national media, the accident in question is described as the “biggest train accident” in the country in the last 20 years. (AA)
