Death threats against politicians in the hospital battle: “I get pissed”

– I’m not afraid of my personal security – yet, says Sara Nylund (S) regional council.

Threatening posts

In one case, this is a post on the chat in Junsele and in the other a post on the comments field in the magazine Ångermanland.

In both cases the tone is aggressive and threatening:

“I believe that political violence is of distress,” it was on Tå’s side the other day.
Hospital closure = murder on a large scale /…../ This can only be avoided by facing those responsible for the “ultimate” choice.
Horrible, but the only way ”

The posts have now been removed.

– We need to switch up our awareness of security. It is a threat that makes us have to be more on our toes, says Sara Nylund, who is determined in her opinion that the posts must be reported to the police.

Politicians have been threatened before

This is not the first time that politicians in the region have been exposed to hatred and threats on social media and in other channels. Over the past 10 years, this has mainly been linked to the issue of Sollefteå Hospital.

In one of the cases, a person was convicted of gross slander.

There are only weeks left to the region finally make a decision on the hospital in Sollefteå. Do you see a risk that the threat level will increase during this time?

– You never know, I will do my best for us to have a good debate climate, and I hope all elected representatives take responsibility for not whipping up the mood. We cannot accept threats and violence because you do not get what you want, says Sara Nylund.
