Sun and former Minister of Justice Fu Cinghua, who were detained in the same investigation, and Wang Liki, the former Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of Jiangsu Province, were sentenced to death with a two-year delay by the same court.

Three former police chiefs accused of complicity by forming a faction under the leadership of Sun were also sentenced to prison terms for bribery and abuse of power in cases held in different cities of Hıbey province the previous day.
