Iran has issued the first death sentence after the recent widespread protests against the regime in the country.

The defendant is sentenced to death, among other things, for having set fire to an authority building and for having waged “war against God”, AFP reports.

Iranian authorities have announced that public trials will be held in Tehran against more than 1,000 people arrested during the regime’s crackdown on the protests.

Several of these people risk the death penalty.
