Iconic player of the Los Angeles Lakers and legend of the NBA, American basketball league, Jerry West died this Wednesday, June 12 at the age of 86. Starting leader of the Los Angeles franchise throughout his career between 1960 and 1974, Jerry West won the NBA title in 1972, and reached the NBA finals nine times. During the 1960s, he embodied the rivalry between the Lakers and Bill Russell’s Celtics. Recognized by all connoisseurs of the orange ball, Jerry West is also known throughout the world and by the general public. It is in fact his silhouette which was used for the NBA logo.
Jerry West was also a great leader in his life. He was responsible for the Lakers’ three consecutive titles in the early 2000s by recruiting Shaquille O’Neal and drafting Kobe Bryant. He was also part of the Golden State Warriors’ organizational chart between 2011 and 2017.
