From music to cinema, there is only one step. And it is not Jean Sarrus, one of the founding members of the Charlots, who will say the opposite. The French actor and singer died this Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Aged 79, he died from a long illness, announced his “longtime friend”, Philippe Manoeuvre, to AFP. He was one of the last historic members of the charlots still alive, with Jean-Guy Fechner and Luis Rego.
First nicknamed “the problems”, the group of charlots was formed as a humorous rock group, in 1965. In the band, we then found Gérard Rinaldi, Jean Sarrus, Gérard Filippelli, Luis Rego and Donald Rieubon. The latter left the group to do its military service and was replaced by William Olivier and then by Jean-Guy Fechner. They ensured the first part of several recognized artists, such as Françoise Hardy, Claude François, Johnny Hallyday and the Rolling Stones.
Their cinematographic career began in the 1970s. They took their first steps in front of the camera in The Great Java From Philippe Clair, but it was under the direction of Claude Zidi that they make themselves known. With the director, they turn Les Bidasses en Folie, the mad stadium, the big bazaar, good kisses from Hong Kong And The Bidasses go to war. Now known, they also turn The charlots make Spain, the four flies charlots,, Les Charlots en Folie or Charlots against Dracula, Charlots Connection Or The return of the charlots.
Jean Sarrus will be playing with all these productions … but not only. We have indeed seen it more recently in The old stoves 2 From Christophe Duthuron, released in 2022. On television, he participated in many programs as a member of the Charlots, but also as an actor in TV movies or series or as a host. He was also one of the “members” of the big heads in 2013.
