Famous for his song “Le Rital”, Claude Barzotti died on June 23, 2023 from generalized pancreatic cancer. He was 69 years old. His state of health forced him to end his career in 2020.

The Belgian-Italian singer-songwriter died at his home in Court-Saint-Étienne, following cancer, announced his manager Laurent Comtat. Claude Barzottidied aged 69 in his bed, surrounded by his two daughters”, declared Laurent Comtat.

    Operated for pancreatitis in 2016

The singer had never hidden his addiction to alcohol. In 2016, he had been operated on for pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). In November 2020, the singer announced that he was ending his career due to serious health problems. “I am seriously ill. I am currently suffering from terrible pancreatitis which forces me to go to the hospital every day and sometimes stay there for several nights in a row. Doctors are less and less optimistic. They told me that it was getting very complicated and that they had never seen it” he had explained.

    Pancreatic cancer, a silent disease

Claude Barzotti suffered from chronic pancreatitis, which is a prolonged inflammation of the pancreas. This condition increases the risk of pancreatic cancer. This is what happened to the singer.

Pancreatic cancer is the second most common digestive cancer. It is a disease that develops without causing symptoms at first. When the first symptoms appear, the tumor is often already very developed. This is why this type of cancer is often diagnosed late. The first visible symptoms are loss of appetite and progressive weight loss, sometimes accompanied by jaundice (or jaundice). Jaundice is due to compression by the tumor of the bile duct which normally evacuates bile from the liver to the intestine.

Management is based on the use of several treatments. Surgery (removing the part of the pancreas where the tumor is) and chemotherapy, sometimes combined with radiotherapy, are the main treatments for pancreatic cancer. They can be used alone or combined with each other.

Pancreatic cancer is often diagnosed at an inoperable stage and is therefore extremely difficult to cure in 90% of cases.
