Alain Delon died this Sunday, August 18, at his property in Douchy-Montcorbon in Loiret. Can this loss facilitate a reconciliation between his children in conflict? The opinion of our clinical psychologist.
Alain Delon is no more. The actor with an impressive filmography, also known for his strong positions, died on Sunday, August 18 in the morning, at the age of 88, in his residence located in Douchy-Montcorbon (Loiret). For several years, the conflicts between his children have been making headlines. Will his death help to calm this situation? The opinion of our psychologist.
Placement under judicial protection then under reinforced guardianship
Due to a failure in his mental health, the courts considered placing Alain Delon under judicial protection at the beginning of 2024, as his son, Alain-Fabien, revealed at the time via his Instagram account.
Two months after being placed under judicial protection, Alain Delon was finally officially placed under reinforced guardianship last April. All this against a backdrop of quarrels between his three children, Anouchka, Anthony and Alain-Fabien. After the death of the patriarch, will things calm down between them?
Could Alain Delon’s death bring the siblings closer together?
“The death of Alain Delon inevitably revives discussions on the sometimes complex relationships between children” recalls psychologist Amélie Boukhobza. From a psychological perspective, the death of a parent can indeed serve as a catalyst for a reevaluation of family relationships. griefas a deeply upsetting experience, can of course lead individuals to rethink their priorities, to take stock of their lives and their relationships”.
And indeed, in this context, it is possible that siblings divided by conflicts may be pushed closer together. “The disappearance of the father, especially if he was at the center of tensions, can calm certain resentments, open the way to pardonor at least, to a form of appeasement” assures our expert.
But this does not automatically resolve conflicts.
While Alain Delon’s death will certainly confront his children with their own “mortality” as the psychologist rightly points out – and push them to ask themselves if past disputes are really worth it – it would be illusory to think that the death of the parent automatically resolves conflicts.
“Deep-rooted grudges, jealousies, or misunderstandings do not necessarily disappear with the departure of the parent. On the contrary, death can sometimes revive tensions, especially if the deceased parent was seen as a point of reference, or worse, if questions of inheritance or recognition come into play. Which is precisely the case at the heart of the Delon family.” our expert believes.

Tensions may arise over inheritance
In fact, according to the magazine Galasince 2019, Anouchka Delon has been designated as executor of her father’s will. She should also receive 50% of his inheritance, compared to 25% for each of her two brothers. “Unfortunately, inheritance and its amount often become sources of tension, with each heir seeking to obtain their share of the “loot”. conflicts can then move or redefine themselves around these new challenges” Amélie Boukhobza is still exhibiting.
Before concluding: “Reconciliation therefore depends largely on the children’s ability to communicate, and to put their egos aside to overcome differences. But for this to happen, there must also be a real desire to come closer and reinvent relationships.”.
