Despite the United Nations Security Council resolutions and the reactions of the international public, North Korea, which continues its weapons program without slowing down, has made another move that will increase security concerns in the region. The Pyonyang administration announced that the unmanned underwater nuclear strike vehicle Haeil-2 was successfully tested between April 4-7. It was stated that the vehicle, which took off from a port in the South Hamgyong region on Tuesday and traveled a thousand kilometers in 71 hours and 6 minutes, delivered the test warhead to the target determined on Friday.
“DEADLY ATTACK ABILITY PROVEN”
It was stated that the weapon system will “contribute to contain the military actions of the enemies, eliminate threats and strengthen the military potential necessary to defend the country.” It was also emphasized that the weapon test “perfectly proved the reliability and deadly attack capability of the underwater strategic weapon system”.
TARGETING THE NUCLEAR TSUNAMI
North Korea conducted the first test of Haeil-2 as part of a military exercise held between March 21-23. It was stated that the leader of the country, Kim Jong-un, personally followed the testing process. The purpose of the new weapon system was stated to be “to destroy the enemy’s navy and home ports by triggering a large-scale radioactive tsunami through an underwater explosion”. (UAV)
