Five projectiles were fired at the border town of Karkamis, according to Governor Davut Gül.
“Two of our countrymen were killed. Six of our citizens were injured, two of them seriously,” writes the governor on Twitter.
According to the state-run Anatolia news agency, the rockets hit a high school, two other buildings, and a vehicle.
Karkamis is located on the west side of the Euphrates River, which crosses the border between Syria and Turkey.
Over the weekend, Turkey launched airstrikes against areas in northern Syria controlled by Kurdish forces. According to Turkey, it was an attack against the Kurdish PKK and the YPG military forces, which from the Turkish side are described as one and the same entity and which are also responsible for the bombing in Istanbul last week. The Kurdish organizations firmly deny this.
According to the Kurdish authorities, civilians were also killed in the Turkish attacks. At least 31 people were killed, according to the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR).
Rockets were fired from Syria also on Sunday. They targeted a border post, injuring six police officers and two soldiers, according to Turkish reports.
