In our Dead Space Remake review, we dive deep into USG Ishimura and touch on the more varied aspects of the game.
Dead Space Remake review: When Dead Space first appeared in 2008, it really was one of the productions that managed to leave a mark in the game world. Although it actually follows in the footsteps of classic horror games, it was one of my favorite aspects of the game that it successfully combined this process with its own dynamics. In other words, as soon as you step into USG Ishimura, you both feel that fearful atmosphere and understand that a solid gameplay awaits you.
Although EA Games has slowly lost track of the series with its sequels, the place of the first game was always different for me. One of the most important reasons for this is that I played the game only in 2008, finished it and never watched it again. Although my friends who played recently said that the years still do not make the first game old, I did not want those memories to be spoiled at all. Especially the first game of Dead Space has always remained in my memory as a production with horror elements and a wonderful gameplay.
For this reason, I can say that when Dead Space Remake was announced, there were always question marks in my mind. Could the new team betray my good memories? When the game was first announced, I said that I don’t want to play this game just like Resident Evil 3 Remake. I shouldn’t have let those beautiful memories disappear and get damaged in my head. Of course, when the videos about the game came and underlined that the production team always clings to its essence, this perception of me gradually began to break down.
Could there have been an attitude like Resident Evil 2 Remake, not Resident Evil 3 Remake? After many hours of gaming, I want to answer this question first and foremost. Yes, Dead Space Remake has indeed managed to be a production that clings to its essence and transfers the minor changes made to this modernized version beautifully.
Dead Space review / PC
The new Dead Space game is pretty much the same as the first game. However, it has improved the main game in every sense with some innovations, especially its visuality, and its adaptation to today. It doesn’t betray your memories when you start playing the game. In other words, while you are smashing the enemy piece by piece with the Plasma Cutter, it visualizes a memory just like you remember it. It preserves its creepy atmosphere, builds the gameplay on a solid foundation and manages to hook you with its never-ending pace.
Especially if you’ve played Callisto Protocol recently, you understand that it actually does everything it can’t and how this kind of game should be. Of course, the players who played this series at the time were already aware of this, but I think it would not be wrong to say that for game lovers who met Dead Space for the first time, a new example that will show how this genre should be is now decorating the shelves.
USG Ishimura trial and testing center
You start Dead Space on a ship bound to assist the mining ship USG Ishimura. Our directing character is Isaac Clarke, an engineer. In the first minute, one of the most radical changes in the game draws your attention. Yes, Isaac can talk now! Our main character never opened his mouth like a nightingale who had eaten a berry in the original game, and the empathy between the player and the character was provided in this way. In this game, speech has been added to our character and the functioning and dialogue structure we already know has become more dynamic thanks to this. When I started playing, I thought, “Oh, how nice!” A must-have change has not been overlooked in the renewed version, and everything has been handled from the very beginning with the dialog structure.
Our crew that arrives at USG Ishimura crashes in the classic way and we try to find out what happened on the ship. Of course, after that famous first raid, you get the impression of a classic alien epidemic at first. But when you go deeper into different parts of Ishumura, they have beautifully explained how complicated the story actually gets. The changes made both visually and in terms of presentation allowed us to see the story we already know in a different, more precisely detailed way.
Some scenes that you clearly remember in the game have been made much more impressive with small touches. When you play the game, it seems like there is not much change, but when you make comparisons and read the notes, you begin to understand how much has actually changed, but that this has happened without spoiling the structure we remember. The production team should really be congratulated on this.
Of course, the biggest innovation of Motive Studios in the renewed version lies in the visuality of the game. The game looks really great. You literally feel like you are in a science fiction movie while playing. Light games, the effects of your weapon, dark and narrow corridors, every moment of the game screams that I am new. In addition, with the sound effects that have been made much more effective, the horror atmosphere of the vote has been moved even higher. Metal corridors where you feel worn out and worn out in every sense and you feel the ship’s gradual seizure in every corridor you turn. USG Ishimura has become much more creepy in every sense with the visual innovations made.
Another innovation I like in the game is that it frees you up a lot. As you begin to wander on the ship, you begin to notice this freedom even more. The new doors that you start to open at different moments of the game have carried the feeling of discovery even higher than the original game. On the other hand, innovations such as the lock systems on the wall, where we give electricity to different sections, also contribute to the game in a good way. All these minor changes made, when looked at as a whole, managed to carry the renewed feeling of the game even higher without being noticed.
Those who played the first game will remember, we had to spend the Nodes we also used in weapon upgrades to open some doors. The production team has completely removed this dilemma that the players are suffering from from the new game, and they have signed a process that increases the effect of Metroidvania and thinks a little more. Apart from the doors that are locked according to their level, they have signed different processes such as the rooms where we deactivate the locks by shooting through a small gap.
Of course, as I said, the gameplay is among the most important factors that make Dead Space Dead Space. The character weight, the weapons we use and of course the different types of Necromorphs form the backbone of this game. The Necromorps we encounter are just as terrifying as in our memories. Despite being shattered, they continue to attack you. We use a wide variety of weapons throughout the game, including a flamethrower, ranger gun, or a big gun that fires a powerful beam. Dad Space was already a game that offered a lot of variety in this regard. I also liked the changes, such as finding weapons from different points of the playground instead of buying them now.
Every home needs: Plasma Cutter
Of course, our favorite weapon is the Plasma Cutter. It is very enjoyable to use the Plasma Cutter, one of the iconic weapons of the game world. Shooting the limbs of the enemies, slowing them down with the Stasis you have, or using the objects you find around you make the combat system in the game much richer. You enjoy every moment you play.
As I said, Motive Studios either completely changed or largely removed many of the criticized points of the first game. they have signed a process that has been thought over and placed in a more logical framework. For example, there was a scene in the first game where we shot at the meteorites that did not fit the general structure of the game. In the renewed game, we encounter a task where we have to synchronize the defensive weapons of the USG Ishimura instead. While the narrow space struggles that increase your adrenaline are still as good as the first day, these changes have managed to keep the tempo of the first game from time to time in a certain line.
Of course, Dead Space’s gameplay has tons more to tell, including armor upgrades, weapon upgrades, and boss battles large and small. But all this process was the successful pages of a story we were already familiar with. As a result, Motive Studios did not disrupt an already working dynamic and added small gears in between, allowing it to work much more effectively. Of course, despite all the changes in the game, there are problems such as the tempo problem experienced from time to time, the quest system deviating when you go to another area, or the enemies you encounter fall into the error we call glitch.
I should also note that I have FPS problems from time to time and the game will get better with updates. But when we look at the canvas in general, as I mentioned at the beginning, the production team has made an already solid game much more effective and suitable for today’s conditions by staying true to its essence.
Conclusion
If you haven’t played Dead Space recently or if you haven’t been involved in this series before, like me, I can say that an adventure awaits you that you should definitely experience. If you’ve played the first game, which is not very old, recently, I can say that it would be useful to chase the discount periods to see this adventure in its renewed form due to its price. I hope the Motive team will bring Dead Space 2 and 3 to us in time. Of course, we have to say that there is much more that needs to change in the sequels.
