Dead man found in Fyrisån – police appeal for tips

Found by canoeists – cannot be identified • Police release photos of his clothing

On June 17 this year, two canoeists found a dead man in the Fyrisån at the students’ sports field in Uppsala. The deceased man is believed to have been in his 40s, but beyond that, the police do not know much about him.

So far, they have not succeeded in identifying the man whose fingerprints and DNA did not yield any results after a search in Sweden and international registers.

The man was also not wearing anything that would otherwise help the police identify people.

– He misses everything. No wallet, phone, tattoo or jewelry so he has been unidentified for a long time. We have therefore opened a murder investigation, alternatively homicide in order to be able to use some tools and take this further, says Magnus Jansson Klarin press spokesperson, police region center.

Signal elements

The police do not know how the man died and because the body was lying in water they have not yet been able to find out how long he had been dead.

In the hope of finding out who the man is and what has happened, the police are now going out with his description and clothes. The man is said to have been 172 cm tall, of normal build, dark-skinned, possibly of African origin, had short dark hair, a mustache and a beard.

He was wearing a bomber jacket, green T-shirt and jeans.

– They have tried to trace the clothes but they are very common so they are sold in many stores, which makes it difficult to find the right one that way, says Magnus Jansson Klarin.
