A man who was missing after an accident in Lake Suijajärvi in the northeastern parts of Kiruna municipality has been found dead, the police write on their website.
The alarm came in to the rescue service at 9.30 on Sunday morning. According to initial information, a boat had capsized in the lake, which is south of Kuttainen, and a person must have ended up in the water.
It turned out later that it was a canoe, says police spokesman Åsa Mjörndal.
– That’s how it seems to be. That the person has fallen into the water from a canoe, she says.
Helicopters and units from the rescue service searched for the man on Sunday, but the operation was terminated and handed over to the police, who continued the search without success.
The operation resumed on Monday morning, and at 13.30 the missing man was found dead, something NSD was the first to report.
According to the police, it is unclear what caused the accident.
