Dead by Daylight has had a problem with campers for years – finally presents the solution

Campers in Dead by Daylight rob many of the fun of the game. After years, the developers have also realized this – and are now presenting major improvements.

In the horror game Dead by Daylight, four survivors try to avoid a killer who in turn wants to kill all survivors. But that doesn’t always mean fun for both parties. Because some killers resort to rather boring methods and “camp” as soon as they have their victim. This ruins the fun of the game for everyone involved. Something that the developers are now realizing and are finally introducing an “anti-camping” system.

What’s the problem with camping? Some killers remain hooked once they hang a survivor. They are often in the immediate vicinity or even stare directly into the victim’s face at close range – this is referred to as “face camping”.

Camping puts the survivors in a difficult position. Should they try to rescue the survivor despite camping and risk everyone dying in the end? Or are they just dull repairing generators and ignoring their comrade?

Even if “Face Camping” usually has a negative effect on the killer, since good teams then simply repair almost all generators in time, the fun of the game suffers significantly.

What will be changed? During the Dead by Daylight 7th anniversary celebrations, the developers revealed how they intend to crack down on campers and get the killers to stop camping survivors.

The system works as follows:

Whenever the killer clearly camps a survivor, a meter fills that only the survivor on the hook can see. Once the meter is filled, the survivor can free himself from the hook – even in the second phase of the sacrifice. The survivor then gains the haste buff and also the borrowed time effect as if they were saved by another character – so they can take a hit for a short time.

If the killer is less than 5 meters away, the bar will fill up rapidly. The bar fills up between 5 and 10 meters, albeit not as much.

If the killer is further than 16 meters away, the system is deactivated. The bar stops filling up.

What does that not help against? However, the new system also has a few limitations. It doesn’t activate itself or is significantly weaker when the killer operates so-called “proxy camping”. The killer is always at a greater distance, but regularly visits the victim.

The system is also drastically reduced when other survivors are close to the hook and are being pursued by the killer, for example. In that case, it doesn’t count as camping and the progress bar fills up much more slowly.

Last but not least, the system is completely disabled during the “Endgame Collapse”. There the killer is no longer penalized for camping – because there it is often his only chance to secure a kill for the Entity at all.

How do you feel about this camping change? The perfect way to curb camping? Or is that too drastic for killers – or not drastic enough?
