The death toll from last week’s landslide in Ecuador has risen to 27, authorities say.

Over 160 homes were buried by cascades of mud and earth in the town of Alausi on Sunday last week, about 300 kilometers south of the capital Quito.

Rescue workers are still searching for people in the ground masses. Last Friday, 67 people were missing, the authorities said at the time. The chances of finding anyone alive are slim and the death toll has been rising every day.
