DC mega event The Flash splits the criticism

The road to The Flash’s theatrical release couldn’t have been rockier. Star Ezra Miller’s assaults, James Gunn’s complete restructuring of the DC universe, various obstacles made production difficult. But long before it was released, it was being called the best superhero movie in a long time. Now the first big reviews are there. And they disagree.

DC’s The Flash has received mixed reviews

In fact, there are some extremely positive voices. Deadline refers to the blockbuster as the best superhero movie since Spider-Man: No Way Home“,one of the best superhero movies of the 21st century“, also writes the London Evening Standard. Many are particularly enthusiastic about Miller’s performance, Michael Keaton’s appearance as Batman and the visual effects.

But for a film that was so hyped in the run-up, there is also a surprising amount of disappointment. The Flash is entertaining, but have no new ideas, according to The Guardian. The Austin Chronicle notes that the film focuses on “patheticSages evolve from imaginative superhero hope to soulless bombast. Variety agrees, noting the “random” staccato of characters and themes.

The Flash currently has a 73% critical rating on aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes. This puts it far better than the last DC films Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods and Black Adam. But it is obviously not the expected masterpiece for many. DC has no official plans for more The Flash movies.
