David Lynch was, among other things, behind the films “Blue Velvet” and “Mulholland Drive”, and the popular TV series “Twin Peaks”, which ran between the years 1990 and 1991.
The family announces that he has passed away in a post on Facebook, according to Variety.
“There is a big hole in the world now that he is no longer with us,” they write in the post.
In 2024, Lynch revealed that he suffered from emphysema, a condition in which the small alveoli are damaged, as a result of his smoking.
David Lynch had his breakthrough with the cult-declared horror film “Eraserhead” in 1977. Three years later, he made the feature film “The Elephant Man”, which was praised by critics. For that film he received an Oscar nomination. He also did that for “Mulholland Drive”.
In 1990, Lynch received the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival for the film “Wild at heart”.
David Lynch was 78 years old.
