David Kroik has devoted his entire adult life to revitalization – today he is doing his dissertation at the Faculty of Humanities, Department of Language Studies, Umeå University.
Creating space for Sami language use: language revitalization in an educational context, is the title of the dissertation. The opponent is Caroline Kerfoot, professor, Department of Swedish and Multilingualism, Stockholm University.

– I have not only investigated how language revitalization takes place. I also describe that as a researcher you also have a responsibility to participate in this process of language revitalization, so I teach, for example, future Southern Sami teachers and I hope that we will take the Sami language with us from history into the future, says David Kroik who also is a lecturer in Southern Sami at Nord University in Norway.
