David Cage’s studio bought entirely by Chinese?

An independent studio that has become its own publisher and that of new projects since January 2019 since NetEase invested 100 million dollars in capital, Quantic Dream could well be bought out 100% by the Chinese giant. This information, which we will obviously treat in the form of rumors for the moment, comes from journalist Tom Henderson, well known for his leaks and his scoops which he regularly shares on Twitter. This time, it is for the Exputer website that he signed the paper qualified as exclusive. According to the man and his well-placed sources, talks have been underway for several months between NetEase and Quantic Dream for a total acquisition and which could well be announced this summer. According to Tom Hendersen, this will to buyout comes from the leaders of Quantic Dream, who have actually approached several large companies since the end of the exclusive collaboration that the Parisian studio had with Sony Interactive Entertainment for which several games have been made. In an attempt to seduce as many interested parties as possible, Quantic Dream would have presented Project Karma as its next big game and presented at that time as a space exploration game, and which would later become the famous Star Wars Eclipse, which was announced in December 2021.

NetEase could be a good candidate for the total takeover of Quantic Dream, the Chinese giant having already shown its appeal for large AAA game studios, such as the takeover a few months ago of Grasshopper Manufacture, the studio founded by Suda51, at the origin of franchises such as Killer7, No More Heroes and Lollipop Chainsaw. By buying a studio like this and possibly Quantic Dream, this would allow NetEase to establish a certain credibility in the world of classic and qualitative video games, other than the mobile game of which the Chinese firm has made a specialty. Those familiar with the matter say the buyout deal would be pretty much the same as Grasshopper’s, meaning it would allow Quantic Dream to work freely and thus be able to enjoy the financial resources that David’s studio has. Cage needs to properly finish his Star Wars Eclipse.
