David Beckham is one of the world’s best soccer players of all time.
Now he himself gets the chance to name the very best he has ever played with.
Then, among other things, the whole of Manchester United and a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic are nobbed.
Already in 1992, a 17-year-old made his debut David Beckham for Manchester United’s A team. Few had any idea then that one of football’s very first superstars was created that day.
Beckham’s career
Because even if the man with the golden right foot is not considered one of the very best footballers of all time, no one can argue that he is one of the most famous. Ever since his breakthrough at Manchester United, Beckham has been a mega-celebrity and constantly watched both on the pitch and on the sidelines.
On the pitch thanks to his magical right foot which screwed in incredible free kicks and powerful long balls. Since then, his private life has been under constant scrutiny with the English media chasing him for many years.
Went to Real
It was a total of 65 goals and 265 Premier League games for Manchester United before a high-profile move to Real Madrid in 2003 and a new life as a “Galactico” in the Spanish capital. After that, the football career continued as a big poster name in the Los Angeles Galaxy and short guest appearances in the big clubs Milan and PSG.
The Englishman has won most of what there is to win with a Champions League title, six PL titles, a La Liga title, a Ligue 1 title and quite a few cup titles. In addition, “Becks” has played with a whole bunch of legendary players throughout the ages both at club team and national team level.
“The best”
Here are big names such as Eric Cantona, Ronaldo, Kaka, Ronaldinho and also Swedish Zlatan Ibrahimovic. But when he gets the chance to name the very best he has ever played with, he still chooses to nod all former United teammates and Mr. Ibrahimovic.
Instead, Beckham chooses to point out Zinedine Zidane as the absolute best teammate he ever shared a football field with. The 47-year-old reveals that in the friend Gary Neville’s Youtube program “The Overlap”.
– The best player I have ever played with, apart from you, is Zidane, says Beckham in a joking manner.
“Emotional”
David Beckham and Zinedine Zidane played three seasons together at Real Madrid and the idea was that they would contribute to a new era of glory for the club. But the grim truth is that the duo only managed to win one title together, namely the Spanish Super Cup.
The English icon then had the honor of playing with Zidane in the very last game of the Frenchman’s career. And it was a very emotional moment for everyone involved.
– I am very, very happy to have played against “Zizou”, but one of the greatest moments of my career is lining up next to him as a teammate. That moment in his last match 14 years ago was emotional not only for him and us but the whole world. Thank you my friend, Beckham wrote in a tribute to Zidane on Instagram in 2020.
