The duo knocked out one of the Netherlands’ teams, featuring Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen, in straight sets in the round of 16 of the championship being played in Tlaxcala, Mexico.
– We played a good match, they say to TT after the victory, which means they get to meet another Dutch team in the quarter-finals on Saturday.
Which of the two remaining Dutch teams it will be is not clear until the round of 16 is finished.
– Both are good. It will be a very tough match, says David Åhman and adds that it will require a top effort to advance to the semi-finals.
“They do stupid things”
Confederation captain Rasmus Jonsson spoke highly of the successful duo after the win.
– We are making a great effort. Jonatan stands for a big game in blocks and outclasses the significantly taller opponents at that point. We make them look bad in this match – and in the second set they lose their patience completely and start doing stupid things because they get frustrated. That we would crush them was not what we had expected, he says in a press release.
Åhman and Hellvig are second seeded in the championship.
