BAC 2022. The specialty exams for the 2022 baccalaureate will take place between May 11 and 13. These are the first written exams that all candidates take. What subjects are assessed, on what subjects and when will the results be published? Answers.

[Mis à jour le 27 avril 2022 à 11h35] The specialty tests, and therefore the first round of baccalaureate exams, are organized from Wednesday May 11 to Friday May 13, 2022. Initially scheduled for March 14 to 16 when the upheavals of Covid-19 on the school system were still being felt, the written tests have been postponed by decision of the Ministry of Education to “preserve equal treatment between candidates and to allow everyone to prepare for these tests serenely”. Two months later, the baccalaureate holders will finally pass the first phase of the exam: the tests dedicated to the two specialty courses studied in first and final year. At the start of the year, Jean-Michel Blanquer indicated that candidates for the 2022 session will be able to benefit from some adjustments on the days preceding the tests and during the exams:

  • In the establishments, the two days preceding the tests will be devoted to reviewing the exams. Terminale students will only follow their specialty courses;
  • For each subject, when the specialty allows it, the candidates will have the choice on the questions or the exercises to be treated;
  • The tests concerning the attestation of a language level are cancelled, on an exceptional basis, for this year.

The 2022 baccalaureate session is the first to be organized according to all the methods introduced by the baccalaureate reform implemented since 2018 and gradually implemented in 2021. As a reminder, in its new form, the baccalaureate is assessed at 40% via continuous assessment and at 60% thanks to the final tests including the specialty tests, French, philosophy and the great oral. The specialty tests are the first final exams to be taken, French, philosophy and the major oral being scheduled between mid-June and July 1.

What subjects for the specialty tests?

Each specialty test, whether specific to the general baccalaureate or the technological baccalaureate, has its own programme. As for each examination, the candidate is therefore likely to be assessed on all of the topics studied. The Ministry of Education has therefore made an effort to reduce the number of topics that could potentially fall out of the baccalaureate exam. For each subject, it has categorized the main themes of the program and decided that from 2022 some will be assessed in examinations during sessions in even years while other subjects are reserved for odd years. The major themes or those judged as such are subjects likely to fall each year.

To find it, the Ministry of National Education website shared his new subject-by-subject classification. On the document, the pink themes are those of the even years and can be assessed during the May exams in addition to the themes left in black. The themes colored in blue will not appear on the copies this year.

The specialty tests last between three and four hours, but again the course and content of the exams are specific to each subject. For all the written tests and depending on the teaching assessed, the candidates will have to answer questions, solve problems, carry out various exercises or even write essays. One thing is certain “these specialty tests will include adjustments to their subjects, which will always guarantee the candidate a choice, whether between questions or between exercises”, promised the Ministry of National Education on January 28. Concretely, the subjects will submit several questions or several exercises to the candidate and the latter will have to choose to answer or to carry out a certain number of them. Be careful because some subjects will provide compulsory exercises for all candidates and others optional.

When will the results of the specialty tests be published?

Given the postponement of the specialty tests to at least May, the results of the exams will be published at the same time as the others, i.e. on July 5, 2022. The marks obtained in the written tests of the specialty courses, and normally known in March, should be taken into account in the Parcoursup file. As a result of the postponement of the tests, it is ultimately the averages of each candidate in these lessons over the three terms of the first class and the first two terms of the final class that have been entered in the orientation files.

What are specialty exams?

Since the reform of the baccalaureate, the S, ES and L streams no longer exist in high school. And the baccalaureate is no longer just a set of written tests in all subjects concentrated in one week at the end of the year. From now on, the continuous assessment is taken into account up to 40% of the final mark and various tests (French, teaching of specialties, philosophy and great oral) make it possible to complete the evaluation at the end of high school.

The specialty tests correspond to the choice of three specialties made by each high school student in first year. In the final year, he only keeps two and takes written tests on them before the end of the year. The results are of significant importance. Weighted 16 each, they correspond to 32% of the final grade.

When choosing their specialties, students have the choice between: arts; history-geography, geopolitics and political science; humanity, literature, philosophy; literature and languages and cultures of Antiquity; Foreign and regional languages, literatures and cultures; math ; digital and computer sciences; chemical Physics ; economics and social sciences; engineering Sciences ; Life and earth sciences ; biology-ecology sciences.
