Murder, sabotage, infiltration and recruitment – so the tasks look like the “Ministry for special assignments”, called SSD. The head office is located in Moscow, in the same building as the Russian military intelligence service GRU. According to the Wall Street Journal, the department was started in 2023 in response to West’s support to Ukraine and has so far carried out murder attempts and sabotage in other countries. One of these cases is suspected to be the attempted murder of Armin Paper, CEO of the German defense group Rhein metal.
