Half-distance runner Nicolas-Marie Daru qualified for the Paris Olympic Games thanks to his coronation in the 3000m steeplechase of the French Athletics Championships, this Saturday June 29 in Angers. Rare discipline where there were more candidates for the Olympic sesames (4) than available places (3), the 3000m steeplechase was one of the most anticipated races of the Championships, a competition which acts as a justice of the peace to establish the selection Olympic according to the terms of the French Athletics Federation. By winning the race in 8mn 24s 37, Daru won “priority status” at the age of 35, which ensures he will see the Olympics. Just behind him, Louis Gilavert (8mn 24s 39) and Alexis Miellet (8mn 24s 91) completed the podium and also validated their Olympic tickets to the detriment of European vice-champion Djilali Bedrani, 4th in the final and big loser of the day .
