Only 17-year-old sensation Luke Littler has won the world championship as the youngest ever darts player.
Darts’ biggest star of the moment, with more than 1.5 million followers on Instagram Luke Littler beat the three-time champion in the World Cup final Michael van Gerwen 7 to 3.
The 17-year-old sports sensation stormed to a 4–0 lead right after the handshake, while the experienced Dutch opponent was nervous in the important deciding match at London’s Alexandra Palace.
– Tonight Littler just threw sticks of dynamite on stage and van Gerwen couldn’t help it, Sky Sports commentator Dan Dawson filmed the one-sided World Cup final.
Littler received a prize money of 500,000 pounds (more than 600,000 euros) for the prize win, half as much as van Gerwen, who experienced a final loss.
The darts prodigy from Warrington celebrated the Junior World Championship in 2023. At the age of 16, he reached last year’s World Championship final, where he lost even then For Luke Humphries 4–7.
Dutchman van Gerwen, 35, has won the world championship in 2014, 2017 and 2019.
Jelle Klaasen won the World Darts Championship in 2006 when he was 21 – four years older than Littler.
