Dark and Darker developer Ironmace seeks community help against cheaters

Ironmace, the developer of the PVP-based dungeon crawler game Dark and Darker, is seeking help from the gaming community to combat cheaters.

Ironmace hopes to call on the game’s community to identify players who deliberately cheat to spoil players’ fun. Despite improvements to the anti-cheat system with an update released in previous months, this first-person role-playing game is still being hit by cheaters.

Released as a demo by Ironmace earlier this year, Dark and Darker caught the attention of players with its stunning aesthetics and PVP gameplay. However, Dark and Darker’s unique nature of presenting extraction-based gameplay in a Dungeons & Dragons-style setting caused cheating issues.

South Korean game giant Nexon had previously employed some members of the Ironmace team, and Nexon claimed to use assets from Dark and Darker’s in-development P3. This legal dispute resulted in Dark and Darker being removed from Steam this year. However, Ironmace hopes to bring the game back to Valve’s digital store Steam in the future.

The team started fighting against cheaters

While Dark and Darker is currently in early access, players who have overcome the challenges required to obtain the game have been complaining of being attacked by online cheaters. Ironmace seeks the community’s help to prevent cheaters from ruining the game’s online experience.

As reported by PCGamesN, Ironmace is urging players to submit images and usernames of suspected cheaters on the Dark and Darker Discord. Ironmace has created a dedicated Discord account to handle cheating reports, and it also provides a space where players can post videos of suspected cheaters.

Players who videotape someone suspected of cheating in Dark and Darker are instructed to forward their video to their Ironshield Support account on the Discord server. Players are only required to message this account instead of other Ironmace personnel for 30 days and are instructed to message Ironshield Support only when they have a video of a suspected cheater. While this effort has yet to show whether it will be successful in combating cheating in Dark and Darker, it seems clear that Ironmace is doing everything it can to fix the issue.
