Haute couture week is ending in Paris and a beauty trend has far from gone unnoticed. Maison Margiela wowed the crowds during its fashion show by presenting its models with visible pubic hair. A detail that should take over the beaches next summer.
It was under thunderous applause that John Galliano closed the spring-summer 2024 haute couture fashion week by presenting its creations for the Maison Margiela. If the delicate dresses, transparent veils and other trompe-l’oeil effects will have left their mark under the Alexandre III bridge, a beauty detail created a surprise: the return of the Merkin.
What is Merkin? This is a pubic wig intended to display full hair. In 2024, smooth skin will fall into disuse and gradually give way to more density. The codes of femininity are changing and visible hairs are becoming established as fashionable beauty criterion. Like Januhairy, a movement which consists of not removing hair in the month of January, body hair is in order. Unshaven armpits, growing mustaches, hairy legs and bushy swimsuits are back in the spotlight. Moreover, many celebrities have succumbed to the trend like Julia Roberts, Angèle, Paris Jackson or Miley Cyrus. Thus, next summer should break the injunctions on female hair and give way to more freedom.
How to wear the Merkin?
In the same way as a hair wig or any other makeup, the Merkin is applied according to the rules of the art. Specific steps must be followed to preserve your private parts. First of all, choose the model that suits you, some are made of synthetic hair and others of real human hair, fixed on a flesh-colored net. Prices vary depending. Then, it is possible to cut the Merkin according to your wishes and to adjust the length of the hairs with scissors. For a hold of more than two days, it is recommended to carry out waxing beforehand. The wig will hold more. Wait until the inflammation from hair removal has subsided then apply the Merkin using a dedicated adhesive product, applied directly to the back of the wig. Hold until the glue dries and you’re done. Please note that it is not recommended to wear the Merkin for more than 48 hours. After that, remove the wig using a cotton swab soaked in nail polish remover.
