Last year, a man was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping 13-year-old Filippa in Denmark.
Police linked him to the unsolved kidnapping-murder of 17-year-old Emilie Meng.
Now the man has been charged and is suspected of trying to kidnap yet another teenage girl.
The Danish police and the Public Prosecutor’s Office announced on Monday that, after many years, an indictment had been reached in the Emilie Meng case, the police wrote in a press release.
The 32-year-old man is charged with kidnapping, rape and the murder of Meng. He is also accused of kidnapping and raping 13-year-old Filippa, as well as another attack and attempted kidnapping of another teenage girl.
“The prosecution has been brought on the basis of a thorough and objective assessment of the case’s extensive material. With the indictment and in connection with the upcoming trial, which starts in the court in Næstved in May, previously unknown information from the criminal case will become available to the public,” the police write in a press release.
Suspected of having victimized three girls
One night in July 2016, 17-year-old Emelie Meng disappeared. She was last seen when she waved goodbye to her friends at a train station in Korsör, Denmark. The police began to suspect that she had been kidnapped.
About six months later at Christmas time, her body was found in a lake. The police launched an investigation into kidnapping, rape and murder. The unknown perpetrator was then still at large.
Six years later, the police had a breakthrough in the investigation.
In the spring of 2022, a girl, 13-year-old Filippa, suddenly disappeared while she was out cycling and handing out newspapers. A large search effort was launched and the last clue was that she called her father at 11.30 and said she was on her way home.
But she never turned up and her bike was later found in a ditch. A massive search effort was launched and she was found the next day in a residence in Korsör, and was alive. The 32-year-old suspect was also there.
The arrested 32-year-old was already questioned when Emilie Meng disappeared. In connection with Meng’s disappearance, the police were interested in a particular car that had been seen at the time of the disappearance, a light-colored Hyundai i30, and the man was summoned for questioning because he owned such a car.

Was already a suspect in the investigation
Emilie Meng’s family has been critical of the police investigation in several respects.
Among other things, there was a female witness in connection with Meng’s disappearance, which TV2 revealed in connection with the 32-year-old becoming a suspect in the Filippa case.
The investigation includes a witness interview in which a woman states that she saw a medium-sized car parked at the place where Meng was later found dead. The woman told the police that she saw that the trunk was open and that a man was carrying something heavy. She also said in the interrogation that she believes the car’s registration plate began with “BD”.
The 32-year-old was included in the investigation at the time because he owned a Hyundai i30, as did over 2,000 other people. But the 32-year-old’s car had a license plate that began with “BB”.
The trial begins in May and the 32-year-old has partially admitted certain circumstances surrounding the accusations of the case with 13-year-old Filippa. It is still unknown how he reacts to the suspicions regarding the murder of Emilie Meng and the attack on the teenage girl who was assaulted, Danish reports TV2.
The man must undergo a psychiatric examination before the trial.
