Danny Jansen played for two teams in one game

A combination of the rulebook and inclement weather made former Blue Jays and current Red Sox shortstop Danny Jansen the first to play for two teams in the same game.

Before the game was canceled due to heavy rain, he played for the team Toronto Blue Jays Toronto. However, when the game resumed two months later, Major League Baseball (MLB) players switched to the opposing team, the Red Sox.

He thus becomes the first player ever to appear on both sides of the field in MLB history.

“It’s cool”

“It’s cool to leave such a mark in the sport. It’s interesting, and strange at the same time. And I’m grateful for the opportunity to get that,” said Danny Jansen after the game.

Jansen says he was surprised to learn he was the first player to do so.

“I don’t know if it will happen again. It would have to be perfect weather conditions for it to happen. I’m glad everyone enjoyed it,” he says.

“Let’s make history”

Red Sox manager Alex Cora said before the game that he would play Jansen even though he has played for the opposing team, adding, “Let’s make history.”

But the team change did not pay off this time. The Red Sox lost the game 7-3.

He will send the two game jerseys that Jansen wore to the Baseball Hall of Fame in New York.
