Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s Social Democrats Party, which narrowly won the general elections held yesterday in Denmark, became the party that received the highest number of votes, winning 27.5 percent of the votes in the parliament. Frederiksen, who was the winner of the election according to the preliminary results, said that he submitted his resignation to the Queen and that he would start working to establish a government with broad participation based on the centre.
In the left-wing red bloc supporting Frederiksen, 14 political parties competed for 179 seats in the parliament, reaching 87 seats in the elections. Danish media stated that with the addition of 2 seats from Greenland and 1 seat from the Faroe Islands, where vote counting continues, the left bloc gained a majority with 90 seats. The right-wing blue bloc led by Jakob Ellemann-Jensen was the second largest group in parliament.
